Digital Creative Space
The Digital Creative Space (DCS) on the ground floor of the Central Library has been specially designed for group work and offers a modern learning and working environment for smaller and larger teams.
Space for ideas and Collaboration
Smartboards, whiteboards, a video wall and three-sided rotating columns for diverse analogue and digital collaboration await you in the Digital Creative Space. Comfortable workstations create room for creative ideas.
The DCS is for your own use - please be careful with the equipment and considerate of others. Food is not permitted in the Digital Creative Space, drinks may only be taken in lockable containers.

Reservations
Book the room flexibly for half a day or a whole day. The DCS is ideal for events with a focus on technology and teamwork.
Technology in the DCS
The Digital Learning and Teaching team at the Georg-August-Universität Göttingen is happy to offer all interested parties introductions to the technology available on site. If you are interested, please send an email to elearning@uni-goettingen.de or find out more in our tutorials.
Media control System
You control the lighting and technology in the DCS using the touch panels on the left and right at the entrance. Once activated, you are taken to the start screen, from which you can switch the entire room or individual work zones on and off and dim them.

Smartboard
Like conventional touchscreens, the smartboard is touch-sensitive and can be operated with fingers and special input pens. Do not use whiteboard pens on the smartboard. Only special pens, which you will find in the board's storage area, are suitable for working on the Smartboard.
The smartboard can be used independently - i.e. without being connected to a computer - as a digital whiteboard. Users have various apps, whiteboard templates and widgets at their disposal. The whiteboard can also be shared with up to 250 people for collaborative work.
To use the smartboard as a (digital) whiteboard, we recommend the integrated app ‘Whiteboard‘.
To open it, proceed as follows: There are four buttons at the bottom of the screen in the middle. Click on the Apps function and select the ‘Whiteboard‘ app. A white ‘board‘ will open on which you can work as usual with smart pens and a sponge.
You can connect your own laptop or mobile device to the smartboard. The upside of it: you always have your prepared files to hand and - connected to the smartboard - can continue working directly in the familiar environment of your device. You can connect your device to the Smartboard via cable or WLAN.
To connect your laptop to the smartboard via cable, you need two cables: an HDMI cable, which transmits the image and sound, and a USB-B cable, without which the touch functions are not available.
You can connect your mobile device to the smartboard using a USB-C cable.
If you do not have a suitable cable, you can also connect your laptop or mobile device to the Smartboard via Wi-Fi, for example with the SMART Screen Share app.
To do this, you must install the SMART Screen Share app in advance. You can download this free of charge from the App Store, Play Store and the smarttech website. The following operating systems are supported: Android, Chrome OS, IOS, macOS.
Once you have downloaded and opened the app, please proceed as follows:
- Make sure that you are are connected to the eduroam WiFi.
- There are four functions at the bottom of the smartboard screen. Select screen sharing here.
- A QR code or the IP address of the smartboard will now be displayed. Scan the QR code with the SMART Screen Share app on your mobile device or enter the IP address in the corresponding field.
- You may need to select which program you want to share your screen with on your device. Select the SMART Screen Share app here.
- If you are working on a laptop, you will be asked whether you want to allow your end device to be operated via the Smartboard. Confirm with ‘Yes’ if you want to proceed.
- To disconnect again, end the transfer in the SMART Screen Share app or close the app.
Each smartboard is connected to a university or StudIT computer. You will find this in the compartment underneath the smartboard (if the smartboard is attached to the steles in the room) or behind the smartboard on the walls.
- If you have not already done so, switch on the board and the computer.
- There are four functions at the bottom of the smartboard screen. Click on Input.
- Select HDMI 1.
- Log in with your access data. Please also refer to the instructions for logging in to the PCs in our libraries.

Rotating columns
At the center of the room are three rotating steles, each with three differently equipped sides. One side is completely technology-free and serves as a large whiteboard, while the other sides offer additional functions for flexible collaboration.
The steles can be easily rotated by pushing one of the sides in the desired direction. Please ensure that the rotating surface remains free. Please only use whiteboard pens to write on the whiteboards.
FAQ - Frequently asked Questions
Who can use the space?
The Digital Creative Space offers space for group work for everyone at the Göttingen University: Students, teaching staff, researchers and employees.
How is the space designed and what can it be used for?
The DCS is an open workspace where conversations and discussions can also take place. For concentrated work, we recommend the quiet individual workstations in the reading rooms. Please be considerate of others and treat the equipment with care so that it is available to everyone in good condition for as long as possible.
What should you pay attention to when using the equipment?
Please only use special whiteboard pens for the writable surfaces. As many pens went missing, we no longer provide these items - so please bring your own whiteboard markers. After use, please clean the surfaces with the whiteboard wipers provided so that they remain clean for others.
Are food and drinks allowed in the DCS?
Food is not permitted in the DCS, as in the entire Central Library. Drinks are only permitted in sealable containers. Enjoy your coffee and snack in the Café SUB.
Is the room always freely accessible?
This room may be booked for special events. Please check the relevant notices and information on the monitor in front of the DCS.
How can the room be booked?
Students and members of the Georg-August University of Göttingen can make a reservation request using the booking form.
