
Inter-library Loan
The item you need is not always available in your own library. You can also use holdings from other libraries in Germany or abroad via inter-library loan.
How to order via inter-library Loan
- You will need a valid SUB Göttingen library card and an inter-library loan account.
- You can obtain the password for the inter-library loan account at the service desks. It is not the same as the password for your library account.
- An inter-library loan credit that you can pay in at one of the self-service checkouts.
- For an inter-library loan within Germany we charge 1.50 euros (1 billing unit)
- Please charge this fee to your inter-library loan account at the self-service checkout before placing your order.
- Additional charges may apply for more than 20 copies.
- Log in to your inter-library loan account.
- First search the catalogue of the Common Library Network (GVK). After a successful search in the GVK, you can order the wanted title.
- You can place an order by clicking on "Copy order" or "Loan order".
- Please enter a current e-mail address when ordering. You will be notified by e-mail when your order arrives.
- The delivery time is usually one week. You will be notified when your order has arrived.
- Upon presentation of your library card, you can collect the books from the designated service desk within 14 days.
- Interlibrary loan requests for copies and partial copies are delivered in digital form. The copy is available for download for 30 days after delivery.
- The loan period for books is usually four weeks.
- Please observe any terms of use imposed by the lending library.
- Please return the books on time, at the latest by the end of the loan period, to one of our service desks.
- Fees will be charged for delayed returns.
University Facilities
Institutions affiliated with Georg August University Göttingen can make payments to the inter-library loan account as part of "internal cost allocation" using the form "Payment to the inter-library loan account (internal cost allocation) (PDF 163 KB)". The form can be submitted at one of the service desks of the Göttingen University Library in the Central Library, the Historical Building and the departmental libraries.
International inter-library Loan
For inter-library loans outside Germany, please contact the staff at the information and service desk, who will advise you individually. Please note that international orders are subject to increased costs.
Exceptions when ordering
- Books and journals available in Göttingen,
- Particularly valuable works published before 1800,
- Entire volumes of magazines,
- Books available in bookshops with a price of up to 15.00 euros,
- Reference works and loose-leaf editions (copies of individual articles are possible),
- State examination, diploma and master's theses.
