Centre for Collection Development
Centre for Collection Development serves the academic collections across the Göttingen Campus. It runs the Forum Wissen, a central hub for exhibitions, academic communication, and work with the university’s collections.
Centre for Collection Development coordinates and supports the academic collections housed in the institutes and faculties of the University of Göttingen. Its core tasks include cataloguing and digitising the collections, preserving and managing them, conducting research, and presenting research and teaching collections drawn from the university’s material academic heritage.
For these purposes, Centre for Collection Development offers services for the university collections as well as for teaching staff and researchers who are interested in (interdisciplinary) use of the collections:
- Operation of the University of Göttingen Collections Portal (Sammlungsportal) and its central database systems (in collaboration with the GBV Network Headquarters), including first-level support, data-curation training, digitisation initiatives and data-management services.
- Operation of a conservation workshop and a nitrogen chamber for integrated pest management.
- Support for seven university collections currently placed under the custodianship of the Centre for Collection Development
- Teaching activities with a focus on collections and museums.
- Advisory services and support for acquiring and implementing interdisciplinary research projects involving the collections, including provenance research.
- Curation of exhibitions and related educational and outreach formats for the Forum Wissen, as well as curatorial consulting and collaborations with external exhibitions and cultural partners.
The Centre for Collection Development operates Forum Wissen as a central venue for exhibitions, science communication, and collections work on the Göttingen Campus.
