Strategic Objectives for Open Access Funding
Provision of new funding opportunities for the publication of books, journals, and journal and conference contributions by editors and authors based in Lower Saxony.
Targeted support for early-career researchers (wissenschaftlicher Nachwuchs).
Enhancement of the international visibility of research and regional scholarship from Lower Saxony through Open Access availability.
Strengthening of the information supply and accessibility within the state.
Sustainable and long-term development of Open Access information infrastructures in Lower Saxony.
As an alternative to profit-oriented approaches in scholarly communication, Diamond Open Access plays a pivotal role in the transition toward a sustainable publication system. Consequently, the Lower Saxony Publication Fund specifically supports scholar-led Open Access publishers and non-profit initiatives. These entities ensure that authors are not charged publication fees (APCs) and that all publications are made immediately and freely available to the public.
