Aufbau einer offenen Bibliometriedatenbank innerhalb des Kompetenznetzwerks Bibliometrie (KBOPENBIB): Teilprojekt Kuration Zitationsdaten und Open-Science-Evidenzen

The objective of this project is the establishment of an open bibliometric data repository within the Competence Network for Bibliometrics. This will enable research and higher education institutions to, in line with the principles of Open Science, utilize innovative and open data sources as alternatives to proprietary bibliometric databases, thereby reducing dependency on commercial providers. At the same time, the creation of a freely accessible bibliometric data infrastructure promises independent analytical potential for research outputs and publication formats that remain underrepresented or entirely absent in proprietary databases.
Specifically, the consortium will collaboratively develop an open bibliometric data repository based on OpenAlex within the Competence Network for Bibliometrics. The project pursues four interrelated sub-objectives:
1) Database Provision: Deployment of a free, machine-readable developer instance of the OpenAlex bibliometric database as a foundation for curating German publication data under an open license.
2) Database Comparison: Comparative analysis of coverage (comprehensiveness) and data quality between the open bibliometric database OpenAlex and the proprietary databases Web of Science and Scopus (via IST analysis).
3) Data Curation: Development and implementation of technical methods for curating metadata of publications originating from researchers at German institutions, involving authors in the curation process.
4) Networking and Reuse: Identification of national and international reuse opportunities in academic research and specialized information sectors.

The work conducted at the SUB Göttingen aims to provide OpenAlex data, analyze the coverage gap between proprietary and open bibliometric databases, and develop a method for identifying original research articles.
